Pioneer Manor boasts a residents’ choir run by Sudbury musician JoPo

May 19, 2020
There is a choir from Pioneer Manor, a nursing home in Sudbury, Ontario that began as part of the “When I Sing” project initiated by Nickel City Sound in 2013. Members of the chorus committed to going out and teaching Tom Gentry’s arrangement of When I Sing plus one other song, chosen by the fledgling choir from  the chorus repertoire, once a week for eight weeks. At the end of that time, they put on a concert where the choir with their coaches – one from each vocal part – performed. The group from Pioneer Manor has continued to get together and is still singing.
The project, the brainchild of former Nickel City Sound director Wanda Olsen, was a huge undertaking but it changed the lives of many people throughout the district of Sudbury – Manitoulin, as you can see in this article on our local news site. – Patricia Cassidy
